If you’re in Orange County or the Inland Empire
Coverage here is thin. Stehly’s Irvine pickup and Primal Pastures in Murrieta are the closest options we can verify. If you buy your holiday bird from a farm or butcher we haven’t listed, tell us about them. We check every submission before it goes live.
How much to order, and how to thaw it
USDA’s rule of thumb is about one pound of turkey per person, which leaves some leftovers. A frozen turkey thaws in the refrigerator at roughly 24 hours for every 4 to 5 pounds, so a 16-pound bird needs about four days. Buy a fresh turkey only one to two days before you cook it. Cook turkey to 165°F; beef roasts to 145°F, then rest at least three minutes.
For what the labels on these birds and roasts actually mean, see What Meat Labels Actually Mean. If you’d rather fill the freezer for the year, start with What a Quarter Cow Actually Costs.
FAQ
When should I order a pasture-raised turkey?
Now. Small farms raise a single flock and sell out, and several pickups happen the weekend before Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving 2026 is Thursday, November 26.
What’s the difference between a heritage turkey and a broad-breasted white?
Heritage breeds like Bourbon Red grow slowly and can mate naturally, and they tend to have darker, richer meat. Broad-breasted white is the standard commercial breed, bred for a large breast. Several farms here offer both.
Can I get a pasture-raised turkey shipped in Southern California?
Yes. Autonomy Farms, SZ Ranch and Brite Creek Farm all ship within California. Stehly, Da-Le Ranch and BeeWench are pickup or local delivery only.
Where can I get a local prime rib for Christmas?
Autonomy Farms and Da-Le Ranch both take holiday prime rib orders. Autonomy ships frozen; Da-Le is pickup only.
