SZ Ranch runs certified organic Black Angus and laying hens on Foothill Road in the Cuyama Valley, in the Santa Barbara County end of the valley. The cattle are on open-range natural grasses year-round — the ranch states they are never in confinement or a feedlot, from birth until harvest. Beef is sold as individual cuts through an online store with pickup and delivery, and at two Sunday farmers markets in Los Angeles: Hollywood, 8am to 1pm, and Beverly Hills, 9am to 1pm. Eggs also go wholesale to around twenty Santa Barbara County stores and restaurants.
Certifications and a wording note: CCOF certified organic for both the beef and the eggs. The eggs are certified organic and range- and cage-free, on certified organic feed — the ranch does not describe them as pastured, and we do not either. The ranch also runs a pumpkin patch and barnyard in the autumn.
