The Morrison family runs Black Angus across 27,500 acres at Santa Margarita, in the hills east of Atascadero. Cattle graze open native Central Coast pasture for twenty-four to thirty months before harvest — the ranch states there are no feedlots and describes the beef as pasture-finished, raised and finished on the same ground. Carcasses are dry-aged twenty days or more at a local USDA-inspected butcher. No hormones, no antibiotics.

How to buy, and one caveat: Whole, half, quarter and eighth beef shares plus curated boxes ship direct to Southern California, and ground beef reaches San Luis Obispo County shops through Pasture Raised Provisions, a local distributor currently sourcing exclusively from this ranch — packaging carries the Camatta name, so you can tell. In April the Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County placed a conservation easement over all 27,500 acres, protecting the ranch from development permanently. The ranch’s own site says no feedlots and pasture-finished; the phrase grass-finished comes from its distributor rather than from the ranch.
