Every Saturday morning at Ventura Harbor, local commercial fishermen sell their own catch straight off the boats. The regulars are Russ Morgan of the F/V Rockfish, Pietro Morici of the F/V Overtime, Hung Tran of the F/V Golden Child and Golden Eagle, and Jason Woods of the F/V Rock Bass. Expect rock crab, rockfish and sea urchin year-round, California spiny lobster from October to March, and ridgeback shrimp from October to May, plus halibut, spot prawn, black cod and whatever else came in that week.
The market runs Saturdays from 6 to 10 a.m. at 1448 Spinnaker Drive, behind Andria’s Seafood, and it often sells out by 8. Bring cash, Venmo, Zelle or a check; no cards. The market posts the week’s species on Facebook the day before.
