Fishermen sell their own catch directly to the public on the downtown San Diego bayfront every Saturday from 8am until 2pm, or until they sell out. The market is run by the San Diego Fishermen’s Working Group, a 501(c)(3) founded in 2011, and turned ten years old in 2025. It handles local San Diego waters only and openly refuses to carry salmon, oysters, mussels or trout on the grounds that they are not local.
Practical notes: Supply is whatever the small-boat fleet landed that week — yellowtail, bluefin, swordfish, opah, wahoo, black cod, rockfish, halibut, mackerel, sardines, squid, crab, sea urchin and snails have all appeared. An on-site cutting station will process a whole fish for $1.00 per pound. Arrive before 11am for the widest choice, and bring cash: some vendors take cards and some do not.
Listed means this is a vetted local source we have not yet fully verified against our regenerative criteria. Inclusion is never paid and is not an endorsement.
